Catholic Gift Guide: Young Children

My final 2011 Catholic Gift Guide is presents for young children, from babies to preschool and kindergartners.  Children this age are like sponges, soaking up whatever they're given.  They're so hungry for truth and beauty, so this is such a great time to start teaching the faith.

I personally think that one of the best gifts you could give a young child this Christmas is a child-friendly nativity that they can touch and explore.  We love the Little People Nativity, which is $24.99 at Family Christian Stores, and there are also a number of other child nativity sets available, including Playmobil (for children over 3 - has tiny pieces), wooden, and plush.

Every Catholic family with younger children needs at least one Toddler rosary .  I think this is the classic model, which has very large beads.  It's just $6.95 at St. Patrick's Guild.

The CCC of America saint movies are so "old" that I watched them when I was a child, but in my opinion they are still the best animated saint movies for young children.  They blend realism with child-friendly details, and my girls are glued to them.  I can't get my three year old to stop talking about saying the rosary after watching "The Day the Sun Danced!"

A great way to introduce the youngest children to Jesus and their friends in heaven is with a huggable doll.  This stuffed Jesus is $19.95, and this St. Therese doll is just $16.95 from Catholic Child - how sweet!






There are many wonderful Bible and saint books of all kinds for young children, but none could be more beautiful or unique than Tomie DePaola's.  And he has so many Catholic titles, from his Book of Bible Stories
